Great conversation. I wish there were more people like you in your country that are in touch with the realities. Although you two are probably the same as having 100 minds working in sync. Cheers Ladies.

We don't need more conservative Democrats like Manchin and Sinema who prevented the Dems from getting good bills passed

Abbott better be careful what he wishes for.

Perfectly efficient gerrymandering requires spreading your own votes as thin as possible so that when you win a district, your side has no “wasted” votes (winning 50.1 to 49.9%), while at the same time you concentrate the other side’s votes into a few districts where they win by wide margins (e.g., 80 to20%) which results in the other side having 30% wasted votes in the few districts they win.

The risk to The GOP is that if there’s an anti-Trump wave larger than they’ve anticipated, they might have spread their votes just a bit too thin in Texas, in which case instead of winning all of the close Texas races, they might lose a lot of the close races—and get wiped out overall.

So to push 5 more Texas districts toward the GOP column requires the GOP to spread their votes thinly in more than just those 5 districts. In the present anti-Trump environment, it’s a dangerous strategy for The GOP. A decent anti-Trump wave election could make gerrymandering blow up in Abbott’s face. (Pardon the mixed metaphor.)

Why is Murphy in NJ not joining other governors in the fight? We need more fighting in NJ. Dems narrowly beat Reps in 2024. Many residents were upset about whales washing up dead and the wind turbines planned to be built too close to the NJ shore where we get a lot of tourists. Other issues regarding where affordable housing is allowed to be built. Netflix getting away with not building in accordance with floods in mind.

The electoral law needs change; abolish gerrymandering and electoral college altogether.

Katie I have a Kitty door. One cat uses it 24 hours a day 365 days a year. The other cat expects me to open the front door. She is out all night and sleeps during the day. When it gets cold she stays inside.
